Welcome to the TechEthos newsletter

In this edition, the spotlight is on our analysis of international & EU law on new and emerging technologies

Welcome, old and new readers! For our new readers, TechEthos is an EU funded project that brings together a team of ten scientific partners and six science engagement organisations to work together on the ethics of new and emerging technologies.

Our overall goal is to produce ethics guidelines that enable the inclusion of ethical and societal values in the earliest phases of technology design and development.
This "ethics by design" approach will not only provide value for researchers and innovators, but also for related stakeholders such as research funding bodies, research ethics committees, and the future users of our three technology families: Climate Engineering, Neurotechnologies and Digital Extended Reality.

In this edition we highlight the key findings of our analysis of international and EU law and policy. This study explored relevant laws and policies in relation to our three technology families and identified gaps and legal uncertainties.

Read on to learn more about our human rights impact assessment, get familiar with the key role of our Advisory and Impact Board, and discover materials and resources that we think you may find useful

Do pass on this newsletter to those who you think would like to join this growing community of ethics-driven, emerging technology enthusiasts.

We look forward to the next part of this journey,

The TechEthos Team

Interested in how developments in Climate Engineering, Neurotechnologies and Digital Extended Reality (XR) might impact human rights? Dive deeper with this blogpost series.

How do our rights as individuals stack up if our environment is affected by climate engineering activities facing climate change?

How might digital extended reality (XR) affect online safety and the emerging rights to be online and to disconnect?

How could advanced neurotechnologies applied in the courtroom interfere with the privilege against self-incrimination?

Meet our Advisory and Impact Board

The Advisory and Impact Board's help is essential in maximising the quality and the impact of our work.  Board members act as TechEthos ambassadors and guarantee that the highest scientific standards are followed throughout the whole project. New members have joined our Board this autumn - a warm welcome!

New synergies

A new project has joined our cluster of like-minded EU-projects - a warm welcome to ETAPAS!

TechEthos' cluster offers a platform where projects that address ethical and societal challenges of new and emerging technologies can exchange and create synergies together.
